Colorful, vibrant bangle bracelets and fiber rings. These are two fun and colorful design ideas you can locker hook quickly. They’re great for the younger members of your family or the young at heart. You can create these using recycled bits of fabric you have left over and combine them with vibrant silk strips for contrast. Featured in the photo below are a bangle I made just yesterday in gorgeous reds I call the Holiday Bangle and the Harlequin Bracelet from the Locking Loops book. Both are made with Color Crazy Sari Ribbon and the Holiday bangle uses the new Ruched Frames technique. The other bangles are locker hooked on 5-mesh canvas and are featured in the Hook, Loop & Lock book. To make the bangle bracelets view the How to Locker Hook a Bangle Bracelet tutorial on Color Crazy.
The Harlequin Bracelet is hooked on linen burlap. The rest are locker hooked on 5-mesh canvas. You can locker hook circular bangles or bracelets that have a more snug fit with different closures–antique buttons or beads with beaded loops, clasps, or ribbon ties. The Fiber Gems rings below are locker hooked on 5-mesh canvas using recycled silk and Color Crazy sari strips. The technique used to secure the edges is featured in the Locking Loops book.
Easy to make:
1) Cut out an oval, a square or a rectangle or the design you prefer out of 5-mesh canvas and use adhesive to secure the edges. Let dry.
2) Use a strip of silk to frame the edges.
3) Locker hook with recycled silk or Color Crazy Sari Ribbon Strips adding a little length for desired height. Or, locker hook a frame around the edge and use the “Ruched Frames” technique to fill the center.
4) Sew in edges.
5) Attach to a ring base using a fast-drying permanent adhesive like Quick Grip. You can find different kinds of ring bases on Etsy. Search under supplies. Let dry.
6) Have fun giving this handcrafted and unique item as a gift!
